Vent
Vent is an incense burner that utilizes the Venturi effect to burn cone incense at a greater speed than it would in open air.
This projects brief was to demonstrate an understanding of designing for repeatable manufacturing methods, specifically moulding. Part of the requirement of the project was to create multiple copies of the design to give away at the end of the paper.
Development
The nature of this project meant that form development was brief, with the focus being on understanding concepts such as designing with draft angles and managing shrinkage of cooling/setting materials.
The base was first made of cibatool, in a way that allowed a vac-formed mould to be created. This was then used to create the cement base.
For the top, cibatool was hand-turned to create the original shape. It was then cast into a 3 part silicone mould, which was used to create the resin top. A small amount of hand-finishing was required.
