Hi, I’m Chris! This is my design portfolio.

In 2023 I completed a Masters in industrial design at Massey University, Wellington, New Zealand, and I hold a certificate in automotive engineering from 2016.

My masters project was based around working with Dr. Eli Gray-Stuart from the Massey University Engineering School of Food and Advanced Technology, and Maihi Potaka, Ngāti Hauiti, Ngāti Manawa, Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, who is a Ringatoi and kōwhaiwhai practitioner. I was tasked with designing a piece of fruit packaging that utilised the auxetic kōwhaiwhai (kōwhaiwhai pūtoi koiora) that Maihi had been creating and researching the properties of. This meant learning how to carry out research in the fields of industrial food processing and export, and working with concepts of cultural significance that are not of my own.

Since leaving university, I have worked for Vanlifer LTD, developing designs that were driven by targeting a unique gap in the campervan market for lightweight, clean campervan conversions.

I have worked in the automotive engineering field for 7 years, plus other various electrical and mechanical roles and interests, including some heavy industry and electrical specific work. This has given me a strong set of engineering related skills and a wealth of knowledge around technological and engineering principles, and the ability to easily aid communication and work between the disciplines of engineering and design.

I have developed a strong knowledge base around designing holistically to combine technological, aesthetic, emotive and cultural principles.
